Wildflowers Photography from the One Plus One Design Blog

We are very happy to be able to present our most recent client work ? newly launched, brand spanking new website for Wildflowers Photography of Thousand Oaks, California!

The project began back in spring, when Joy Prouty contacted us with a dilemma not uncommon to photographers. She had a large following, but her online presence was scattered into 3 separate components, with 3 independent designs. A portfolio website, a blog, and a site dedicated to workshops. The solution needed to house all of these pieces into one fluid, consistent ?blogsite?. No problem, right?

You see, Joy is a free spirit and a true lover of life. Enthusiastic for vintage antiques, fabrics of all shapes and sizes, children?s books and nature in all its unhinged beauty. A family-oriented wife and mother of 3 (soon to be 4!) whose not-so-distant future plans include selling their home and traveling the USA in a 23-foot long, fully-renovated 1950 Spartanette trailer!

With all of these attributes and facts, the challenge was to organize the design to reflect the above into a cohesive, easily used site.?We chose to extract a comment from our very first meeting as our defining mantra ???the perfect antique store? ? which was the analogy termed to us by Joy when describing the desired feel for her website. Interpretation: a site that includes all the noted elements that make Joy and her family tick, uniquely executed and lovingly?organized into one super-site, allowing for her work (which is truly stunning) to shine in the brightest way possible.

Our solution ? to create a storybook. An uninhibited??look at her work, her family, and her many eclectic interests. The first component in our design process was an interactive masthead, utilizing an engaging set of ?family member rollovers?, teeming will illustration. This helped set the tone, which was accentuated by the use of a repeating background pattern, based on one of Joy?s favourite quilts. Our next suggestion was to include an Instagram feed (complimented by chickens and eggs ? a nod to the farm they live on) which provides a closer look at the everyday world of the Prouty family. All of these elements, of course, were accented by a joyous, vintage-inspired colour palette of worn brights and warm greys, used consistently throughout the site. Rounding out the details were the bits and bobs of illustrated flowers, a typewriter styled font selection, specialized photo frames for the gallery, and a bit of stitching and fabric for good measure. Oh, did we mention the Washi Tape used for the menu buttons and section headers?

All in all, this was a true labour of love, and we are more than thrilled for Joy and her family as they start their new chapter in life. And, judging by her Facebook page comments, we?re not the only ones! If you haven?t been to her site already, then these photos should be enough to nudge you in the right direction. Go on, we dare you to not get absorbed. - Tyler + Jessie
