GameStick Console Kickstarter - Business Insider
Consoles and video games are pricey and bulky.
But what if you could pay $80 for a sleek, mobile solution?
GameStick is a Kickstarter project with that promise. It's an Android-powered console that is open, portable, and available as early as April.
GameStick's founders were frustrated with game traditional consoles. So they shrunk everything down and made one the size of a USB flash drive.
GameStick is compatible with any TV that has an HDMI port.?The system uses Android's latest operating system, Jelly Bean, an Amlogic processor, 1GB of RAM, a content download manager with cloud storage for your games, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, a multi-purpose Bluetooth controller that turns into a gamepad, mouse, and keyboard.
The GameStick supports full 1080p HD video and the interface looks exactly like a modern console.
Right now GameStick is $70,000 past its goal of $100,000. It's only been live for 30 hours and the campaign has 27 days left.
KickStarter, pledges start at $10 but to get a system you'll have to fork over $79. But be forewarned: Kickstarter projects are notorious for being shipped late, because your funding an idea, not a finished product. And we're skeptical the founders can mass produce the consoles and turn a profit for $79, especially if they blow past their goal and find themselves on the hook for more pre-orders than they anticipated.
