Costa Rica earthquake: No tsunami warning for California, U.S.
The tsunami warning issued after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake rattled Costa Rica on Wednesday does not include California or other parts of the West Coast, officials said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center downgraded the warning to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama after the earthquake struck about 8:42 a.m. south of the town of Liberia. The original alert warned of tsunamis stretching from Mexico to Peru.
No advisories were issued for the western coast of the United States or British Columbia, although the National Weather Service said some areas could see "non-damaging sea level changes."
Officials said they would continue to monitor Hawaii's risk and said a watch or warning could later be issued for the state.
The extent of damage or amount of injuries following the quake was not immediately known.
