UK lawmakers question military capabilities (AP)

LONDON ? British lawmakers are warning that the U.K. would struggle to mount another operation on the scale of its intervention in Libya because of massive defense cuts.

A report from the Defense Committee says the intervention in Libya, which led to the overthrow of Moammar Gadhafi, was justified but has raised "important questions" about the extent of the U.K. military's capabilities.

Britain's participation in the NATO mission over Libya was carried out before key defense cuts had been made and the report published Wednesday said the government will face "significantly greater challenges" with a similarly-sized operation in the future.

The committee warns that future NATO operations may not be possible without strong U.S. assistance.
