Harvard dropout Zuckerberg to visit campus

Mark Zuckerberg, who started Facebook in 2004 while he was at Harvard, is returning to the campus for the first time since he left it that year to start the social networking site.

The Facebook CEO is on a recruiting mission, not seeking to pick up his degree, which he never completed. He'll be at Harvard Monday and "just over 200 students will have the opportunity to see him," according to The Harvard Crimson, the campus newspaper.

Zuckerberg, 27, will also be visiting MIT and Carnegie Mellon University for the recruiting trip, and is "eager to connect with computer science and engineering students from some of the best schools in the world" who "may well be tomorrow?s Facebook innovators," a company spokesman told the newspaper. Facebook itself has been recruiting at Harvard since 2008.

The sometimes too-serious Zuckerberg is learning to be more at ease in his public appearances, witness comedian Andy Samberg's portrayal of Zuckerberg?at Facebook's recent developer conference.

He will find himself likely mobbed at Harvard, where he may be the best-known non-grad in recent times (Bill Gates was another Harvard student who dropped out to pursue what became Microsoft). And Steve Jobs also did not complete his bachelor's degree from Reed College in Oregon.

The Crimson notes that to be part of an "exclusive discussion" at 5 p.m. Monday with Zuckerberg and other corporate execs, students have to upload their resumes to a campus website by Friday. No one is wasting time. A college official told the paper that the site received eight responses within three seconds of opening the application.
