Bush praises Sept. 11 heroes ahead of NFL openers (AP)

NEW YORK ? Former President George W. Bush has praised the rescue workers of Sept. 11 in recorded remarks played before NFL season openers.

On the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, Bush appeared in a 90-second opening sequence of "Fox NFL Sunday" titled "The Journey." Bush's statements were weaved in with taped remarks of police and firefighters.

Appearing in an open shirt and jacket, Bush said "we started to heal with the help of our national pastimes, with the flip of the coin and the roar of the crowd." He concluded "we will never forget our heroes."
